The plot
In the year H.C.175, in the era known as the Holographic Century, mankind has spent fortunes and countless years of research to develop a new form of Holographic technology. There now exist many different types of devices using this newfound technology that can process data and translate them into holographic images that can actually be interacted with by anyone who owns an HDPC, a Holographic Data Processing Computer.
These “Holo-Comps” are mainly used by people referred to as Programmers, individuals who wield these devices in special programming tournaments and matches. Though not all Programmers use their Holo-Comps for combat, most of the programs manufactured and distributed by modern companies are made to be used in battle. Luckily for the common civilian, holographic technology can only affect others using the same technology, keeping them safe from potential evil-doers.
Unfortunately, no period of human history will ever be perfect, and the HC era is no exception. A group has formed with the intention to overthrow the current system of government and society and replace it with their own ideology. These modern revolutionists have taken on the name of the Coordinators. Unlike past groups dedicated to destruction and reconstruction, the Coordinators use cunning and subtle tactics, with many of their agents posing as normal Programmers and participating in tournaments to achieve higher levels of fame, power, and influence to use in their master plan. The symbol of the Scythe is the Coordinators idea of what they wish to do with the world. They wish to completely wipe it out and then reform it the way that they wish for it to be. That is why they wear this sort of emblem.
Luckily for the world, a group has formed in order to counteract this threat to society. The Regulators are an organization dedicated to maintaining peace and order, making the Coordinators their main target. Their job is a dangerous and tricky one, since they must first discover the identity of Coordinator agents before they can do anything to expose and hinder their evildoings. If there is any way to stop the HC from being completely changed forever, the Regulators are determined to find it. The symbol that the Regulators use is quite different to that of the Coordinators. Their emblem implies a more governing feel with the 3 spirals meeting to show the unity that the society needs.

HDPCs, programs, and programmers
Holographic Data Processing Computers, otherwise abbreviated as HDPCs or Holo-Comps are the heart and soul of a Programmer. These incredible devices come in almost any size and shape, ranging from intricate-looking metallic devices wrapped around a person’s arm, small carrying packs that contain the correct components, or even something as small as an average wristwatch.
The basic concept of these Holo-Comps is that they can store a certain amount of premade programs that are processed by the device and then translate it into an actual image and effect. Fortunately, the effects of these programs can only interact with or affect other people who are actively using a Holo-Comp. This has been made possible by the fact that the HDPC emits a certain “aura” or wavelength that engulfs the entire body of the user, which is what detects the effects of someone else’s device, and thus allows the two forces to clash.
To fully understand how programming works, you must first fully understand what programs are. First off, there are two different types of programs. There are weapon programs and ability programs. Each type is installed into a Holo-Comp in a different manner and takes up different areas of storage within the hard drive. A standard HDPC is automatically supplied with enough room to hold two weapon programs and one ability program. These can be switched in and out during any time, though this would be illegal and probably impossible during a programming match. As a programmer increases in rank, they may customize their Holo-Comp by adding more room for either weapon or ability data.
As the names suggest, a weapon program stores data for combat tools such as swords, knives, axes, and any other imaginable devices. Ability programs have a much broader range of possible data including things such as manipulation of fire and other elements, psychic abilities such as barriers and telekinesis, and enhancements to the human body’s speed, strength, and endurance.
There is one final piece of vital information that ties together a Programmer and his HDPC. Normally, a Programmer who inflicts damage from another Holo-Comp user feels the pain and physical feelings of the action, however, they receive no actual injury from the exchange. But there is a less known feature of Holo-Comps that can only be exploited as a Programmer moves up in rank known simply as Synchronization. With enough focus and training, a Programmer can synchronize his mind with the Holographic “aura” that is emitted by their device, increasing their power dramatically, depending on how in tune with the device they have become. Unfortunately, this synchronization carries a great risk along with great power. The more connected a Programmer and a Holo-Comp become, the more physical damage that the user receives. It is not illegal to perform this action during a tournament or match, but the Blade Corp takes no responsibility for casualties in their facilities.
A high level Programmer with enough skill and experience can achieve a full synchronization with his Holo-Comp, allowing them to use the full potential of their programs, yet also exposing their lives completely during combat. In this state, an ability known as “program hacking” can occur. By tapping into a program with 100% synchronization, a Programmer can unlock a programs latent ability and unleash a tremendous power locked within the data. These skills are always unique to the individual, meaning that two different Programmers can use the same program and yet have a different end result. Unfortunately, program hacking takes a hard toll on the program, usually overheating or cracking it beyond use and will be out of commission for the rest of a match until it can be taken to a shop for repair.
Sidenote: When creating or entering a topic, you must post the programs your character currently has installed in their Holo-Comp to ensure that you do not switch mid-battle.

ranks
As a Programmer advances in rank, he will have the ability to hold more program data in his Holo-Comp as well as synchronize further with the device. Promotions will be granted by the staff according to character performance in programming matches.
